The Man from Taured

14th Dec 2019

This must be one of the most intriguing stories I have ever heard. A typical day at a busy airport turned into one of the biggest mysteries of the 20th Century. To this day, nobody really knows exactly what transpired. I have always believed in Parallel Universes, and this strange tale ticks all the boxes!

On a summer's day in July 1954, according to various accounts from people who were, purportedly, involved, a man arrived at Haneda airport (Tokyo) in Japan.

He looked ordinary with dark hair and a beard. Apparently he spoke a multitude of languages including Japanese, although his native tongue seems to have been French. So far so good. Supposedly, the man was asked for his passport, which he presented without hesitation.

However, the local immigration officer picked out something odd on the man's passport, although everything else about it looked legitimate – the country of issue was “Taured”, a place which doesn't exist on this planet.

The tourist told the Immigration officers repeatedly that the region definitely existed and that he hailed from a proud nation that had been around for 1,000 years.

When given a map, the man pointed to a section between Spain and France, known as Andorra, and seemed baffled because his native country was described as “Andorra” on the map rather than “Taured”. Additionally, his passport bore stamps from Japan and other countries from previous journeys. The tourist then produced evidence of business appointments with a number of companies and a hotel reservation. Officials tried to verify his business appointments but, as it turned out, these enterprises actually didn't exist! Nor did his hotel reservation; and the cheque book he carried belonged to no known bank...

Neither party was willing to give up their argument and, finally, the traveller was held on suspicion of possible criminal activity. He was taken to a hotel close by, while the authorities proceeded with their investigation.

At the hotel, the man was guarded by two officers who were located outside his room, in case he decided to flee. However, the following morning, the guards entered the traveller's room and discovered he had disappeared! On closer inspection, they came to the conclusion that the only way out of that room was through the door, which had been heavily guarded by the two officers. The window of the hotel room was too high up for the man to have successfully escaped that way.

Even stranger, the traveller's documents issued by the mysterious country, which were being held at the airport's security room, had also vanished!! Police and Airport officials conducted an extensive search for this enigmatic person, but he was never seen again.

All traces of his presence in Tokyo simply disappeared. I firmly believe a portal became accessible temporarily, and that this poor fellow stepped through it unwittingly. What do you think?
